WHAT IS NRHH?

The National Residence Hall Honorary is the only nationwide organization that is devoted to recognizing leaders in the residence halls; serves as the recognition branch of the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH), Inc. The opportunity to have a chapter on our campus is designed to give local, regional and national recognition to students making outstanding contributions to their campus and residence halls. NACURH, the largest run student organization in the world, firmly believes in the value of student involvement in residence hall life through community service, community building, advocacy and educational programming.

Realizing the value of participation, leaders have contributed vast amounts of their personal time in an effort to make their own college experiences more meaningful to them. This effort not only benefits them, it benefits their campus and entire residence hall system at their school as well. NRHH exists to honor these leaders. They work hard and all too often go unnoticed without even so much as a thank you. Thus the fundamental purpose of NRHH chapters is to let leaders know that they are noticed and appreciated, and thus encourage further involvement.

Even though the main purpose of having an NRHH chapter on campus is to honor our outstanding leaders, many chapters, like ours, go far beyond that. Built around the four pillars of Recognition, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service, the way they these pillars are expressed at different universities vary greatly. In addition to induction ceremonies to recognize leaders, NRHH programs at Miami include recognition week, You Better Recognize, an End of the Year ORL Banquet, service projects, small recognition programs and collaborative programs with the Residence Hall Association, such as Community Council Training.

Membership in chapters nationwide is limited to 1% of the school's residence hall population, or 20 members, whichever is greater. At Miami University this comes out to approximately 75 members. NRHH is a select group of leaders thus being selected into the membership is an honor in which one can take a great amount of pride.
